Beyonce is definitely no stranger to extreme diets. Remember when she did the Master Cleanse to drop 20 pounds for the movie Dreamgirls? Now that's extreme because she wasn't even eating solids!
The couple's latest challenge was created by their friend and exercise physiologist Marco Borges. It also looks like Jay and Bey are already enjoying the vegan lifestyle as they were spotted eating delicious food at a vegan restaurant on his birthday.
As a vegetarian myself I can appreciate this lifestyle, but I can see how it can scare off other Latinas who can't bear to part with their chicken, pernil, or other favorite meats. If you are willing to take on the challenge you'll be glad to know that as Latinas we can reap some EXCELLENT benefits from a vegan diet.
It helps prevent diabetes: As Latinas one of our biggest health concerns is diabetes. A plant-based diet improves glycemic control in diabetic and insulin-resistant individuals. It also reduces the risk of type-2 diabetes.
It can protect your heart: One of the big reasons Latinos face cardiovascular problems is because of their consumption of too much meat. A plant based diet reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol levels from rising, whereas meat does the opposite.
It'll help you maintain a healthy weight: One of the perks of eating mainly plant-based foods is that you're most likely to lose weight and keep it off. The best part is you don't have to count calories or cut out carbs.
You will look your best: Eating lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains can do wonders for your appearance! Not only will your hair and skin look healthier, but you will feel better too.
And you'll live longer: Studies have shown that people who eat less meat live up to six years longer than those who do. This is because the extra fiber and nutrients provided by plant-based foods boosts your immune system keeping you healthier longer.
