Mom’s motivational picture offends insecure women everywhere

A controversial picture that was posted a year ago showing a super fit mom with her three kids went viral again this week. What originally threw people in a tizzy was the message "What's your excuse?" written across the top of the picture.

Many moms seemed downright angry about the photo, feeling that this mom was rubbing the fact that she made time to look good while raising her kids in their faces. Well, Maria Kang, who owns two fitness oriented non-profit organizations, FINALLY responded to the backlash!

Kang was flooded with as many as 17,000 comments on her site about how offensive her message was and called her "obnoxious" and a "fat shaming bully." She didn't expect to have her picture so badly received and instead told her haters:

"I'm sorry you took an image and resonated with it in such a negative way. I won't go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder, work full time owning two business', have no nanny, am not naturally skinny and do not work as a personal trainer."

"What I WILL say is this," Kang continued, "What you interpret is not MY fault. It's Yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head."

The mom of a two-year-old, three-year-old, and eight month old son admits that she has stretch marks, and excess skin that resulted from her pregnancies, but sees them as scars that encourage her to keep going. She works out five to six times a week before she tends to her kids and focuses on her businesses.

She says she wants to inspire people, especially moms that think they don't have time to take care of themselves because they have kids. She also opens up about her dark past struggling with bulimia and how she overcame it on her own.

I can sort of see why some moms might find this picture a bit obnoxious, but I think they completely overreacted! Every woman has a different body therefore it's impossible to say that we can all look like Kang. However, I do agree that moms should make "me" time a priority IF they want to get back in shape. The women who were so angry towards Kang's picture are displaying a reflection of their OWN insecurities.

If they choose to view it negatively rather than a form of motivation then that's on them. I applaud Kang for taking control of her life!
