For the longest time I thought depriving myself of food on the "unhealthier" spectrum was the right thing to do. Then I learned that I could eat just that, but by balancing it out with a healthier side. A healthy diet really is about balance and not being so strict with yourself.

There are some special ingredients you can add to your dish that will make it not only yummier, but healthier too! Check out our list below!

Beans: Choose any beans and make them a delicious and filling side for your favorite dinner dish. Or have them as a dip if you're entertaining a dinner party.

Almonds: As one of the best nuts out there, almonds can satisfy your hunger and the best part is that you can grind them into butter or toss them in your favorite stir fry for an extra nutty taste.

Frozen fruits and veggies: This is an excellent option if your favorite veggie or fruit is out of season. When they are frozen, they are stored at the peak of their ripeness which means their vitamins remain preserved.

Quinoa: If you are out of rice and short on time, this is an excellent alternative. It cooks in a matter of 15 minutes and these superfood seeds can be cooked for dinner or breakfast.

Mixed greens: It's essential to have mixed greens in your refrigerator if you are looking to lose weight. Toss them into smoothies, juice them or have them as a salad to achieve your full nutritional goal.
