If you watch TV daily then you know how easily infomercials for weight loss and exercise programs can reel you in. You see an overweight woman's before and after picture and you want her results. Dixon wants us to understand that the images these commercials use are sometimes fake and edited to make the results look better. In fact, he decided to do an experiment on himself to prove just how easy it is for these commercials to fake the 90 day body transformation promise they make. The process is quite earth shattering and takes LESS than an HOUR. So how did he do it?
Dixon wrote in The Huffington Post, that it takes many years to maintain what these infomercials promise–not just 90 days. To prove just how easy it is to make a person look fitter in less than an hour, Dixon used the infomercial tricks on himself.
He explained that the "before" photo he took showed him on a bloated day under unflattering light and made him look bigger than what he really was. He then shaved his head, chest, and face to present a different image. When taking the "after" photo, he made sure to change the lighting of his bedroom, suck in his stomach, and voila. A faux six-pack and toned new man appears before our very eyes.
Amazing right?! Dixon later took weeks worth of images and altered them to appear as if he'd been losing weight and working out hard for months. This "magical" transformation took less than an HOUR to produce. Dixon believes it IS possible to achieve such results IF you work hard at them, but not in a matter of 90 or 30 days– as most of these infomercials promise.
I admit that I was one of those suckers who thought an infomercial-bought product could get me in great shape. Although I can attest that it did make me feel stronger, I didn't achieve half of the results that these programs promise in a matter of a month. As Dixon said, it is possible to achieve a body like that, but you have to be dedicated for a LONG time. At least now you know the trick to taking a flattering bathing suit photo the next time you have to pose for one!
