After years of shaving and waxing down there, news is everywhere today that pubic hair removal methods can leave skin vulnerable to a highly contagious skin virus called molluscum contagiosum which is passed through skin-to-skin contact.
Are you freaking kidding me? As if we didn't have enough to worry about, now we have to be concerned over whether or not a Brazilian wax could kill us!?

According to the NY Daily News, French researchers have found that removing pubic hair not only leaves you vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, but especially to the skin infection molluscum contagiosum. Am I the only person whose never heard of this disease before? This strange infection causes small pearly or flesh-colored bumps that can become inflamed or even turn red while your body tries to fight it off. Gross! It's spread mainly through sexual contact but can also be passed simply by touching the bumps or an object (like a towel) that has the virus on it.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first beauty fix that apparently results in an ugly disease or outcome. I feel like everywhere I turn I'm hearing about another popular beauty treatment that could be hazardous to your health. Check out a few others I may have to avoid from now on, below:

Brazilian wax
Last year doctors said that Brazilian waxes along with other pubic hair removal methods, could "increase the risk of infection and of sexually transmitted diseases amongst young people." Sorry, but that’s not enough to convince me to grow out a bush. As far as I’m concerned, if you’re going to be in contact with an infection or STD it’s going to happen hairless or not. I rather just practice safe sex.
Brazilian Keratin treatments
There have been studies after studies warning us about the dangerous, cancer-causing effects of the formaldehyde found in Brazilian Keratin treatments. But that still hasn’t stopped a bunch of us Latinas from getting the process done. If it leaves your hair smooth and manageable who cares, we might risk it … right?
Hair dye
Can you believe that certain chemicals found in most hair dyes have been linked to causing cancer? Honestly, what doesn’t these days?
Gel manicures
I was SO irritated when I found out that gel manicures can cause lasting damage to your nails–even skin cancer! Of course there has to be something wrong with the most convenient, chip-free polishes ever. Even so, I can’t promise I’d actually give them up though.
Botox
I'm not against botox if you're in need of a little lift. But as safe as Botox injections can be, there have been some severe cases where women have experienced muscle weakness, vision problems, trouble speaking or swallowing, trouble breathing, and even loss of bladder control. Imagine? All that just from a simple cosmetic procedure. I might just have to pass on that one.
