There was a time I didn't know what else to do to lose weight. Then, as if it were a sign from God, I caught up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while–and he looked much thinner. When I asked how he had lost weight, he said with cabbage soup. The diet consisted of eating the soup, day and night for a week for quick results.
What most struck me was that he told me the cabbage soup diet was designed by a group of doctors for patients who needed to lose weight quickly before surgery. After further investigation on the Internet, I learned that a team of specialists at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital in the U.S. came up with the diet for patients with heart problems who needed surgery.
Though the cabbage diet has become popular as a weight-loss method, experts warn that it should not be followed for more than a week. If you do, you risk losing out on vital nutrients and harming your health.
Other sources say this diet should not be used by diabetics or those with chronic kidney failure problems. If you suffer from one of these conditions, it is best to consult with your doctor.
