The best way that you're going to lose weight is by eating healthier. You know this and I know this. But it's hard to just turn around all of your habits in one day, which is why we're doing this one step at a time, right? Well, today's step has a LOT to do with eating healthier. Actually, it has everything to do with cooking healthier.
Here's the plan: Go through your kitchen cabinets and take a good, hard look at what you cook with. Corn oil, canola oil, vegetable oil, butter and lard are all typical ingredients you might find in most typical Latin kitchens. Trust me, I had plenty of them back when I weighed 100 pounds more than I do now. The smartest thing I ever did was get rid of ALL of those and instead switched to olive oil and, surprisingly, coconut oil.
Yes, I usually use a little bit of olive oil in my salad dressings (along with lemon juice or a vinaigrette, plus fresh herbs or berries). When it comes to frying, sautéing or just cooking something, I opt for coconut oil. I know most of us have heard of it mainly as a face mask or as being good for the hair, but hear me out: try coconut oil for the healthiest frying EVER! It's a very stable oil and, although it may look funny, it's really delicious and makes your food taste great to boot.
Cooking healthier at home is definitely going to go a long way to make you (and your family) look and feel a little better this year. So, go ahead and try it out! And don't forget to come back tomorrow for our next tip.
