Beer may be the secret to curing your winter cold!

I've never really been much of a beer drinker but it looks like I'm finally going to have to change my tune. Japanese researchers have just found that there is a compound in beer that may actually help you to prevents colds! Yes, seriously, the cure to those sniffles you're suffering from right now may actually be an old fashioned Corona with lime.

Doesn't that sound a little bit too good to be true?

Well, to be honest, I kind of think it is. As much as I'd love to believe that drinking a cold one is going to be better for my body than drinking water, taking some medicine and getting plenty of rest (or, even better, having some of abuelita's proven cure cold: sancocho!), the research comes from Sapporo Medical University and is conducted by scientists actually working for the popular Japanese beer company. Previously, beer was also declared "healthy" by Heineken's chief commercial officer.

What the scientists HAVE found, though (even if I doubt their research a little bit), is that beer contains humulone. This is a chemical compound in hops that is effective against the respiratory syncytial (RS) virus and also has an anti-inflammatory effect.

So, perhaps if you're couching up a lung and feeling bloated, then maybe have a beer. You never know! I mean, if a shot of tequila can save your life, then maybe some beer can cure your cold. Though, to be honest, I think I might just stick to medicine and sleep.
