Hello chocolate!

A recent study by Tel Aviv University referenced in this article suggests that topping of our breakfast with a little chocolate might help bolster and maintain weight loss. Good news for those that, like me, can't live without chocolate! Did anyone say chocolate croissant, nutella over whole wheat toast or a luscious piece of chocolate cake for breakfast? I LOVE it!

Any nutritionist will strongly advise that you pace yourself when eating. It's a good idea also to take smaller bite sizes as well to help you consume less calories in each meal. These strategies allow more time for the brain to register fullness and enjoyment before too much food has been consumed. That's the premise of the chopsticks diet, which delivers smaller bites to the mouth and allows the person to eat less than when eating with our traditional fork or spoon. What a concept! Gotta try it.

Studies have shown that chewing gum can help people go easy on higher-calorie snacks and result on greater weight loss. Some other studies say that chewing gum can help people burn more calories each day. In fact, accorging to Magda Carlas, a nutritionist for the Nutrition Department of the Eugin Clinic, chewing gum two to three times a day will help burn about 25 to 36 calories daily.

Thirsty for iced water

This is a great trick that my abuela used to recommend: to drink a tall glass of iced water before each meal as a way to speed up the metabolim to start burning calories even before you take your first bite. Others might say it´s just a way to start filling the tank with something that has no calories. Explain it how you wish, but if Abuela says drink water, we drink water, no?

We told you in this post, about a report in Sleep magazine that suggested that "too little sleep will really make you fat." According to the Anals of Internal Medicine: "sleep deprivation impairs the ability of fat cells to respond to insulin, a hormone that regulates metabolism and is involved in diabetes." Makes sense, no? To get those 9 hours of sleep a night (or as close to that as possible) might be just what the doctor ordered, and I could definitely use the sleep. Good night all!
