New drink promises to help you lose weight AND cure all of life’s problems

Scientists are currently eyeing a new elixir that might help us in many, many areas of life. The drink is said to possibly help you lose weight, treat epilepsy, diabetes and even Alzheimer's. Plus it's also an incredible energy booster!

Now, I don't want to be purposefully be a negative person but, COME ON, doesn't that sound a little bit too good to be true? I mean, lose weight and treat a memory dementia? I just don't understand how those two could possibly be connected and fixed with one little drink.

According to The Daily Mail, "the drink's scientific credentials are impeccable." It was developed by Kieran Clarke, a profession of psychological biochemistry at Oxford University. The biggest draw of the drink, though, isn't that it was created by the head of Oxford's Cardiac Metabolism Research Group (though that's really nice to know), but that it's made with something our bodies are already producing. The Daily Mail explains:

This key ingredient is ketones — the tiny, but powerful sources of energy our bodies make naturally when we start using up our fat stores for energy because there are no carbs around. We all have slightly raised ketone levels before breakfast because we haven't eaten for a while. And if you fast for a few days or go on an Atkins-type high-fat diet, your body will start pumping out ketones. They are nature's way of keeping you supplied with energy — especially your brain and muscles.

The thing that Professor Clarke is doing is making those great-for-you ketones in the lab so that you can get all of the benefits by just adding ketones, in the form of a drink, to your normal diet. That doesn't actually sound that bad, but I'm still really suspicious about this magical elixir. To be honest, I just don't believe that something made in a lab is going to act exactly the same as what our body naturally produces. Maybe this thing really IS a miracle drink, but I think I'm just going to stick to good old fashioned healthier eating and exercise.
