Multivitamins__ are good for you. No, wait, they actually might be a waste of money and harm you. Oh wait! Multivitamins prevent cancer though, don't they?
This is the conversation going on in my head and, it seems, in the scientific community. Over the past few years, many studies have been published about the harmful or positive effects of multivitamins. The latest study seems to indicate that a daily multivitamin supplement can actually significantly reduce the total risk of cancer, but with so many other studies saying the opposite, is taking one really worth it?

That's the million dollar question, it would seem. I honestly don't know how to answer it, because I think a multivitamin supplement can be a very personal thing. Do you eat a diet rich in a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially the dark leafy greens that are full of nutrients? Well, then maybe you're okay without a supplement pill.
Then again, do you eat a diet that severely lacks the plants and lean proteins that provide us with the nutrients we need? Well, then you might need a multivitamin after all. The major new study, published in the Journal of the American medical Association, seems to say: yes, take your multivitamins since they might prevent cancer! So are you really worried about preventing cancer? Then maybe you should take a multivitamin, just in case.

The "just in case" argument is the one I tend to have to rely on these days, since science certainly isn't helping much in making my mind up about whether or not a multivitamin is a good idea. For me personally, I'll definitely keep taking my multivitamin supplement. Not only is it good for me after losing 100 pounds, but if it can really help prevent cancer, then why not?
