I survived a 5 day fast!

Am I glowing a bit?! I probably am–not to toot my own horn or anything…actually, screw that! I'm gonna toot away!

Why? Because I just finished a hard-core cleanse. Nope, I didn't last 10 whole days, but I lasted 5 and I'm pretty darn proud of myself.

I also learned quite a few things that I am going to share with you, and they are, in no particular order:

  1. Holy crap–no, literally! You will NOT believe the stuff that comes out of your body on the master cleanse. I'm not going into any more detail than this. Just know, your insides are gross.
  2. People get mad at you when you aren't eating. I don't know why, but this cleanse generally made everyone I came into contact with uncomfortable. Maybe because of how militant I had to be about it? I don't know…
  3. You have more willpower than you think you do! I sat at a table with a delicious Mexican buffet of food in front of me–from my fave local restaurant nonetheless–and nary a bite passed through my lips! Yes, I'm gangster.
  4. Wine is nice, but water is nicer. Wow! It feels so good for your body to actually get all of the hydration it really needs.
  5. I felt way lighter on my feet. I literally felt like I was skipping down the sidewalk by my fourth day.
  6. Day #3 is the WORST. After two days of feeling like superwoman, I woke up on Friday just feeling sad for no reason, other than the fact that I really wanted a plate of rice, beans and chicken.
  7. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go to a bar when you are on a cleanse. I did this with my best friend after an event I attended with her and just sat there chugging herbal tea. It was lame to say the least.
  8. Do have an awesome hubby (or other support network). My husband was so cute and awesome, even though he really likes sharing meals.
  9. Have a plan for when you get off. I eased off the cleanse with a straight fruit & veggie diet for two days and then planned out my following week to fit in as much whole foods as possible, I've also cut my meat consumption to one meal a day.
  10. Don't be mad at yourself if you mess up! We're not perfect and the fact that you are even making an effort to be a healthier person should be commended!

Have you ever done a cleanse? Did you feel good about it?
