Growing up, my mom used to update our home décor pretty regularly, and I loved it because it gave our home a fresh feeling. Now that I am a grown-up, I do it too. At the moment, I’m looking to rearrange the items I already have and add a few new pieces throughout our home for the summer. But what to add? Well, in order to get some ideas, I thought I would check out which home décor items are trending for summer, and I can’t wait to share.
More from MamásLatinas: Life hacks to make cleaning more fun for kids
I started off by checking out what the top décor trends are according to Etsy, and I got some great ideas. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m not looking to replace everything in my home, because that’s pricey and I’m not trying to redecorate the whole place. What I am looking to do is give everything a bit of a refresh with a new piece here and there, a rug and a bit of wallpaper, maybe some new lighting. Check out the hottest trends for summer home décor this year and some items you can add to freshen up your space for the season.
Psst: If you choose to purchase an item on this list, MamásLatinas may receive a small cut. Each item and price is up to date at the time of publication; however, an item may be sold out or the price may be different at a later date.
Dark wood is having a moment.
Not gonna lie—I found this trend surprising, because for so long it has felt like dark wood was not in high demand. Etsy has seen a “337% increase in searches for walnut desks and accessories” and a “28% increase in searches for brown seating or furniture.” Think woods like walnut and mahogany.
This desk is made of solid reclaimed wood.
It’s so hard to find affordable furniture made of solid wood nowadays, but this handmade customizable desk is made to order and comes with a lifetime guarantee. You can choose the size and style of legs you want on it.
Mermaidcore is totally a thing.
Not to be mistaken with your average coastal style, mermaidcore has a fanciful and playful vibe to it. Think fun and quirky. You could include seashell motifs, iridescent fabrics, and dreamy under-the-sea-inspired pieces.
Seashell-shaped throw pillows are an easy way to dip your toes into the mermaidcore trend.
These cute velvet seashell pillows come in an array of colors that are easy to mix and match. You can use them on your living room or den furniture or even decorate your bed with them.
Paper lights are in demand.
There is something very soothing about light being filtered through a paper shade. Consider replacing some of your lampshades or adding a paper chandelier to your dining room to change the ambiance.
This cherry blossom lampshade starts as a puzzle.
It gets assembled without any tools because it’s made out of 62 pieces that you put together like a puzzle. You can use it as a table lamp or attach it to a light cord to use as a chandelier.
Fun, unique rugs that add interest are so in!
It’s amazing what a difference a rug can make. Especially if it’s a rug that commands your attention because it is anything but dull. Summer is the perfect time to get whimsical with your floor coverings.
This rug is beautiful and offers you symbolic protection.
The design is inspired by "evil eye" protection talismans. Although I can’t guarantee that it can do that effectively, I can say that it will attract the admiring eyes of many because it’s lovely.
Jewelry isn’t just for people anymore.
This trend confused me at first, because I was like, what do you mean jewelry for the home? Since when do homes wear earrings or bracelets? But then I realized a home could be bejeweled with fancy knobs and such.
Just look at these rose quartz drawer pulls!
They are stunning. Absolutely stunning! They also come in raw amethyst and raw fluorite. You can use them to replace drawer pulls in your kitchen or bathroom, or on your dressers. Again, stunning!
Vintage or vintage-inspired is very current.
You can scour thrift stores, your attic, or your grandma’s garage for vintage prints, dishware, doilies, you name it. Or you can go with newer vintage-inspired items that are popping up everywhere.
An easy way to give your bedroom a vintage-esque update is with bedding.
Change up the covers and pillows on your bed with a bedspread quilt set that has a vintage-inspired pattern on it. This particular set is reversible, which gives you the option to switch it up.
Wallpaper gives you so many options.
Even if you are a renter, you can use wallpaper to update walls this summer. Just make sure that it’s renter-friendly removable wallpaper that won’t damage the walls. Use it on just one wall as an accent or go nuts and cover all the walls.
There are so many wallpaper patterns to choose from.
In keeping with the vintage-inspired looks that are trending, consider a pattern that gives old vibes, but in a new way. Floral patterns are very of the moment. And remember, if you don’t like it, you can remove it.
Paprika is poppin’ up everywhere.
Not the spice, the color. Paprika orange is a great way to add some oomph with color. Not only is it a beautiful color, it is surprisingly versatile and goes so well with so many other colors that adding a piece to your décor shouldn’t be hard at all.
Sprinkle paprika on your windows.
Updating your window coverings with something in a shade of paprika is a simple way to incorporate the color into your home. Not to mention that light filtered through paprika fabric gives such a warm, cozy glow.
Marigold is another great color option.
If paprika appeals to you, you can also add pops of marigold yellow to your home. The color is trending, and it happens to complement paprika very well, so win and win!
Get some marigold-colored ceramics.
A beautiful geometric ceramic vase in this vibrant color just makes you want to smile. This one comes in two sizes that would look great side by side with or without flowers in them on a mantel, bookcase, or side table.
Gallery walls are going strong.
Personally, I’m thinking the gallery wall trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. They are a great way to add a statement wall to any room with photos, prints, or vintage designs. They also don’t have to cost a small fortune to create.
You can get a kit to get started.
This kit lets you get in on two trends at once: the gallery wall trend and the dark wood trend. It comes with a set of seven frames that you can use to get your statement gallery wall started. Don’t be afraid to mix in different-style frames as you grow your gallery.
