Although Mother's Day should be all about us and our relaxation, often it falls on us to host the celebration. At least that is what happens to me year after year. Luckily, I have developed a few ideas to keep work to a minimum. See if they help you as well!

Use paper plates.
This setup from the blog ALowCountryWedding.com will impresss even a criticona suegra. But to me the best part is when you realize there are no dishes to wash.
Go with finger foods.
It's not only easier to make, but it also reduces cleaning by a lot. You can find the recipe for Mexican mini pizzas at TrueLifeKitchen.com
What's better than a beautiful tablecloth that can be thrown away?
Nothing, if you ask me. It's not only less laundry, but no worries about spillage and other disasters that often happen at big family gatherings.
To reduce costs, it's a good idea to buy a big roll of butcher or craft paper. If you or the kids want to get creative, go for it with a sharpie or crayons.
Whenever possible, host the celebration outside.
I can't guarantee that your house won't get messed up, but it will be a lot less dirty than if everybody stays inside. No doubt about it.
Go with a breakfast or brunch.
It may mean that you'll have to get up earlier than you would like, but it'll probably happen anyway. At least this way, the stressing part will be out of the way soon, and you can relax the rest of the day. The recipe for these mini pancakes are on FreshDirect.com
Involve the children.
You know they'll want to help. Get the little ones to set the table and the older ones to do food prep, or even the cooking. It's all about giving them tasks that are age appropriate.
Choose no-fuss but cute decor.
Start with an easy to make centerpiece for the table. Isn't this one lovely? Any jar would do and the best part is that you can get the kids to help and make them a couple of days in advance. You can also order them from Etsy.
