The following post is brought to you by IKEA.
My husband and I just purchased our very first house and moved in this past weekend, and though our over 100-year-old fixer upper requires lots of updates, I'm currently attempting to figure out how to make it feel like "home" white they're completed. For me, that means transforming it into a place I want to relax in–particularly our most-used rooms, one of which is the bedroom.

I've been mulling over some ideas for transforming it into an oasis that I'll want to crash in at the end of the day. Here's what I've come up with so far:

Relaxing color scheme
The colors you choose for your bedroom can make a huge difference in how relaxing it is. I learned the hard way when I painted my last bedroom yellow. This time around, I went with a pale bluish gray on the walls and neutral linens in shades of white, cream and grey. To make your bedroom cozier, stay away from the brightest hues and choose either light neutrals or rich, dark colors. Even better if you can pull off a monochromatic color scheme.
Soft lighting
Nothing beats natural light, but for most of us, the sun has long set by the time we make it to our bedrooms. Your best bet is to go with softer, lower-wattage lights. Shaded pendants, table lamps and floor lamps are a great option.
Keep clutter at bay
Get rid of anything you no longer want, need or use. Clutter can stress you out without you even realizing it. Banish it from your bedroom by purging and organizing what's left with creative and beautiful storage solutions.
Layer textiles
Nothing looks or feels cozier than a bed layered with plush pillows, blankets and throws. Make your bed a place you want to dive into every time you walk by carefully choosing textiles in a mix of inviting textures and patterns.
Get the right mattress
Lastly, if your mattress isn't right, fix it. I know mattresses are expensive, but nothing can impact the comfort of your bedroom more than the bed. If you're not happy–or cozy–in the one you have, it's time to upgrade. If you can't afford a brand new mattress, perhaps a mattress pad or topper will do the trick.
