My mother nagged raised me to make my bed every morning. It's like no matter how clean my bedroom was, if the bed wasn't made, then it was a mess by her standards. As a teenager, I totally rebelled and left it unmade plenty of times. Then when I got older, I did what so many of us do and turned into my mother. A room with an unmade bed just looks messy to me, so I prefer making the bed as soon as possible. The thing is I'm not always the last one out of bed. If my husband is the last one out of bed, you better believe he's not makin' that bed no matter how many times I nag remind him to do it. Turns out that he has been doing us a favor by leaving the bed unmade because leaving the bed unmade is actually better for your health. What?!

Oh yeah, this isn't even new news, it's just new to me and probably new to you too.
You've heard of dust mites, right? They are these itty bitty little critters that love to live in your bed. These gross tiny guys love beds especially when you are in them because they love warm moist spots where they can feed on human skin scales. Yuckity yuck. In turn they can cause asthma and other allergy issues because they are so tiny that we just inhale the suckas. I know, it's totally gross.
Well, Dr. Stephen Pretlove, who has done research on this sort of thing says, "Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die."
From now on, I may only make the bed when company is coming over, but you better believe that won't stop me from nagging my husband about making the bed.
