I have a really hard time getting rid of certain things in my home. I don't know why, but it's like I have to hold on to some things until they are literally falling apart or it feels like I'm being wasteful. Pillows

Do you even know how long you've had your pillows? You know it's time to toss them if you fold them over and they don't bounce back.
Toothbrushes

If your toothbrush is more than three months old, GET RID OF IT!
Smoke alarms

Did you know that according to the National Fire Protection Association fire alarms should be replaced every 10 years? Do it, they are life-savers!
Towels

Apparently even towels have an expiration date. I had no idea. Experts recommend replacing your towels every two to five years.
Makeup

Makeup doesn't last forever and old makeup is a breeding ground for bacteria. Get rid of mascara after three months, powders and lipstick after two years, and liquid makeup after six months.
Mattress

Most mattresses should last about 10 years. If yours is saggin', it's time to get a new one. Old mattresses are bad for your back and awesome for dust mites.
Cleaning products

Cleaning products should be replaced every one to two years. Plus if you haven't used a cleaning product up in two years, maybe your home doesn't get very dirty or you're not cleaning enough.
Running shoes

You are supposed to replace your running shoes every 300 to 500 miles. I think they should come with odometers because you know I'm not keeping track of miles.
Fire extinguishers

This one is very important. Fire extinguishers need to be replaced or serviced every 10 to 12 years.
Old clothes

Now I'm not talking about the good stuff that you can easily donate. I'm talking about those old, stained tees, the ones with the yellow nastiness under the armpits. Or old PJs that are also ripped and falling apart. Use those as rags for cleaning! Or just trash them.
