Chobani, American-based makers of Greek-style yogurt, are asking grocery retailers to pull certain products from their shelves due to "isolated quality concerns" arising from customer complaints of suspicious yogurt making them sick. By suspicious, I mean foul-smelling, sour yogurt cups, some of which showed "swelling or bloating" while sealed. Chobani is not calling this an official recall and is treating it more as a voluntary withdrawal. Chobani wrote on their Facebook page: "We're currently in the process of voluntarily removing and replacing some products from store shelves that did not meet our rigid quality standards." So how do you know if you have some of the affected product?

The products being withdrawn from the market are labeled with the code 16-012 and have an expiration date ranging from 9/11/2013 to 10/7/2013. Chobani does not consider the products to be a food safety concern to the public. Apparently, the defectiveness of the affected yogurts is due to "type of mold commonly found in the dairy environment."
Many customers are upset that Chobani isn't calling it a recall and that at first they tried to privately get the products removed from the shelves without disclosing to customers which products are affected. In my opinion, that is not a good move. Whether or not the products pose a safety risk to the public or not, it looks shady if you don't want to tell the public about it, especially if some of the product is already in your customers' homes. Transparency seems like a much better policy in this case.
