My husband and I fight about taco seasoning. Yes, it's an issue in our home. He likes to buy packets of taco seasoning and I am against it. I'm against it for a variety of reasons. To begin with, I don't think it is cost efficient. I also don't like the packaging as it just makes more garbage in the world. I'm not crazy about the flavor of many pre-packaged taco seasonings, most have too much cumin for my taste and I find them too intense. Also, so many of the packets have MSG in them (monosodium glutimate), which is not good for you or me.
Probably most of my anti-taco seasoning bias comes from my upbringing, though. Being of Mexican descent, I have eaten more than my fair share of tacos and I can tell you that growing up my mother never relied on a packet for flavor when she was cooking up tacos.

Now my husband is an excellent cook that can very well season taco meat on his own, but he prefers the convenience of having the seasoning pre-mixed. I understand, which means I just need to get off my lazy butt and make some DIY taco seasoning that is ready for him to use. I found this easy recipe that is made up of items we already have in our pantry. It's time for us to stop fighting about taco seasoning.
