Before you grill up some burgers this weekend, you should know that about 22,737 pounds of National Beef Packing Co. products have been recalled due to an E. coli contamination. The United States Food and Safety Food Inspection is taking this recall seriously and has categorized it as "Class I" because it could cause serious health problems and even death.
It was discovered during a routine inspection, but so far no illnesses have been reported. Despite this, the USDA is advising that you check your freezers and fridges for the affected meats. Keep reading to get further details on this scary recall…

According to The Huffington Post, at least 13 states have reported carrying the contaminated beef which has a sell by date of June 14,2013, was produced on May 25, and has the label "EST. 208A" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products affected are 10-pound packages of the following meats: National Beef 80/20 Coarse Ground Chuck, package code 0481; National Beef 81/19 Coarse Ground Beef, package code 0421; and National Beef 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, package code 0484.
The states who have reported selling the contaminated meat include: Texas, Tennessee, Kansas, Mississippi, Illinois, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Arizona. This couldn't come at a worse time as now is when people are preparing to have barbecues to enjoy the summer weather. At least no one has been affected so far, but everyone should check any of the beef they may have on hand. Maybe the best thing to do right now if you are apprehensive about eating meat, is to stick to chicken and hot dogs during your summer BBQs until this matter is cleared up.
