Natural home cleaning tip: Tea tree oil works on almost anything!

There seems to be a misconception that "going green" as far as household cleaners is not only difficult, but expensive as well. That simply is not true. Green cleaning your home can be easy and economical. I know because I've been doing it forever and I'm a total cheapskate frugal. One of the items that tops my list for affordability and ease of use is tea tree oil. You can use tea tree oil to clean all sorts of things.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is naturally antiseptic and anti-fungal. It has a strong fresh odor that does eventually fade. A small bottle costs around $10; $10 may seem expensive for a tiny bottle of tea tree oil, but a little goes a long way. It's readily available online, at health food stores, and even at some big box retailers.

So how do you use tea tree oil for cleaning and what do you clean with tea tree oil? Well, I'm glad you asked because I will happily tell you how I use it.

  • 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil combined with 2 cups of water make an excellent all purpose cleaner. Put the solution in a spray bottle and clean away.
  • Adding 1/2 a teaspoon of tea tree oil in the washing machine acts as a laundry boost that will leave your laundry smelling fresh and kill mold prone to grow in wet towels.
  • Tea tree oil is a phenomenal mold killer. Spray the all purpose cleaner solution above and do not wipe off of areas that have mold. Let it sit, it will kill the mold and you will breath easier and healthier. Tea tree oil is the most effective natural way to kill mold.
  • Being naturally antibacterial makes tea tree oil an excellent option for cleaning the bathroom, toilet and surrounding areas included.

Once you have tea tree oil in your home you will find countless ways to use it. You can even use it on skin to treat abrasions or acne. I'm telling you the stuff is worth its weight in gold.
