12 Days of Christmas recipes: The perfect traditional tostones (RECIPE VIDEO)

Happy New Year!

As much as I'm enjoying the start of 2013 today, I'm also thinking about the 8th day of our 12 Days of Christmas recipes and how much I know you're going to love making traditional tostones

These twice-fried green plantains are a Latin classic. I've been eating them (along with plátanos maduros fritos, or fried sweet plantains) ever since I was a kid and they're the best side-dish during the Holidays. No matter what other Latin food you're enjoying today, trust me when I say that there are a MUST to make.

This classic recipe actually makes me really, really happy. My big trick for it, though, is to actually pan-fry them in some coconut oil in order to make my dish just a tiny bit healthier. But that's not necessarily your only option, since the traditional recipe is one of those that will just have you licking your fingers for forever. Once you take a bit of those crispy, golden brown plantains, you'll never want to have another dish without them about your side. Yum!
