Nobody knows how to party like Latinos, it's true, but there's a big celebration coming up this weekend and it's all about the Irish.
I love learning about new cultures, so celebrating St. Patrick's Day has always been a fun adventure. But this year I want to do a new kind of spin on the usual Irish party food: a Latin version of the famed corned beef & cabbage.
These recipes for carne bif and Puerto Rican cabbage salad are sure to put a little sabor in your St. Patty's festivities—and impress everyone around!

Carne Bif (recipe courtesy of ElBoriqua.com)
Ingredients:
Olive oil
½ cup sofrito
¼ cup alcaparrado
1 can tomato sauce
¼ cup water
1 can corned beef
1 large potato, cooked and diced
Salt and pepper to taste.
Directions:
Cook sofrito in olive oil. Add alcaparrado, tomato sauce, water, & potato. Simmer for about five minutes. Add beef, salt and pepper. This should be watery – may add more water is needed. This is usually served with tostones, white rice, and a salad.

Puerto Rican Cabbage Salad (recipe courtesy of Kalyn's Kitchen)
Ingredients:
5-6 cups finely chopped green cabbage (about 1/2 large head of cabbage)
1 cup diced tomatoes (I used diced grape tomatoes)
1/2 cup celery, sliced (or if the celery is large, I would cut in half before slicing)
1/2 cup chopped celery leaves (optional, but good)
6 radishes, stem and root cut off and cut into half-moon slices (optional, but good)
1/4 cup sliced green onions (dark green part)
Ingredients for Dressing:
2 T apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. fresh lime juice
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4-1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
3 T grapeseed oil
Directions:
Chop cabbage, tomatoes, and celery leaves, and slice celery, radishes, and green onions. Toss all the salad ingredients together in a large bowl. (If making ahead use a plastic bowl with a tight-fitting lid.)
In a small bowl, mix together the apple cider vinegar, fresh lime juice, salt, and hot sauce to taste. Whisk in the oil, one tablespoon at a time. Taste to see if you want to add more hot sauce.
Toss salad with desired amount of dressing. Salad can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for a few hours, and is even surprising good when it's been refrigerated overnight.
