The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony hosted by Trevor Noah took place on February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The annual awards show is considered the biggest night in music. Grammy winners are voted for by the Recording Academy whose mission “is to recognize excellence in the recording arts and sciences, cultivate the well-being of the music community, and ensure that music remains an indelible part of our culture.” I love to watch for the performances and to see what everyone is wearing on the red carpet.
More from MamásLatinas: Golden Globes 2024 looks that made us swoon
The stars show up dressed to the nines and some even turn it up to 11. Not all of the looks are hits, but that’s OK because fashion, like musical taste, is subjective. My favorite part of any awards show tends to be the red carpet. I love clothes and am always excited to see what the glitterati are wearing. Being human, I have opinions, and here are what I think are the best and worst dressed celebrities as well as those that straddled the line between best and worst at the 2024 Grammys red carpet.
BEST: Christina Aguilera in the lightest shade of blue.
Christina Aguilera took to the 2024 Grammys stage alongside Maluma to present the best música urbana album in a long-sleeved light blue gown that made her look like a fresh drink of water. Gorgeous!
BEST: Maluma in Dolce & Gabbana.
Maluma looked handsome in a black suit that he accessorized with a bow tie and a gold chain on the jacket. His pointy black and white shoes were a nice touch and gave an excuse to look him up and down without guilt.
BEST: Chloe Bailey in Gaurav Gupta Couture.
I have to say that if I were to just look at this dress on a hanger or mannequin, I might not like it. But on Chloe it looks beautiful. She wore the heck out of it and kept everything else simple since the dress was already embellished.
BEST: Jon Batiste in Atelier Versace.
A round of applause for the stunning suit that Jon Batiste wore with such ease and style. The artist was nominated in six different categories this year and also gave a wonderful performance.
BEST: Dua Lipa in Courrèges.
What I love about Dua Lipa's dress and styling is that it all looks so effortless. It's got this whole casual chic vibe even though it's clearly a red-carpet look. And her hair color looks fantastic against the silver of her dress.
BEST: Janelle Monáe in Armani Privé.
I can't count how many times I've seen Janelle Monáe in black and white. But I can tell you that I will never tire of it. This particular gown only has the slightest indication of white created by diamond-esque embellishments, which add a sharpness to the look.
BEST: 21 Savage in Ernest W. Baker.
21 Savage wore a black double-breasted suit with no lapels, over a black shirt and tie. He also opted for black leather gloves. The silhouette of the suit was enhanced by studded metal detailing on the jacket that added just the right amount of interest.
BEST: Peso Pluma in Louis Vuitton.
I love what Peso Pluma wore to the Grammys. It was a fun suit that he looked utterly comfortable in. It also might be one he wants to keep forever because he won the Grammy for best regional Mexican music album while wearing it.
BEST: Victoria Monét in Versace.
Victoria Monét, who was nominated in seven categories, showed up looking like the dang prize. The bronze Versace gown she wore had her looking like a goddess. She was a vision!
BEST: Fantasia Barrino in Cong Tri.
Elegance, thy name is Fantasia Barrino in a retro chic gown with slicked hair and lip cuff to complete the look. She looked timeless and no one can tell me otherwise. And, yes, I am aware that so many other publications put her on their worst dressed list. I don't care. I liked her look.
IN BETWEEN: Laverne Cox in Comme des Garçons.
I'm gonna call this red dress that Laverne Cox wore an in-betweener because one second I love it and the next I don't. I love the color, I love the way it looks on Laverne, I don't think I love the shape of the hips, though. I might hate the shape of the hips. But maybe I love the shape? I don't know.
IN BETWEEN: Kat Graham in Stéphane Rolland Couture.
This is one of those that I love and hate at the same time too. Why? At first I think it looks elegant, but then if I look at it too long it looks like a bib made out of a cloth napkin and a skirt made out of a tablecloth.
IN BETWEEN: Summer Walker in white feathers.
I don't know whether to love or hate this feathered frock. It's kind of fun and over the top in a good way. It's also kind of too much. I guess I love it more than I hate it, but only by a tiny bit.
IN BETWEEN: Karol G in a light green gown.
Congratulations to Grammy winner Karol G. She won the award for best música ubana album. The dress she wore is simple in a shade of light green. There is nothing wrong with the dress, but there is also nothing truly spectacular about it.
IN BETWEEN: Taylor Swift in Schiaparelli Haute Couture.
Taylor's gown is beautiful and fits her well. I have no problem with it, it's the way it's styled that I don't like. The black elbow-length gloves and too many necklaces just don't go. They are a nope.
WORST: Tessa Brooks in Rabanne.
The YouTuber wore a bright yellow gown? Or is it a bodysuit with a skirt? Whatever it is, the ruching, embellishments, and fabric are ick. Maybe it looks better in person than in photographs. Let's hope.
WORST: Miley Cyrus in Maison Margiela.
This whole look is giving ice skater meets Dynasty. I don't know what I like least, her hair or her dress. It doesn't matter though because Miley took home more than one Grammy for her song "Flowers." Good for her! Oh, and she also had a few outfit changes throughout the evening.
WORST: Kylie Minogue in Dolce & Gabbana.
Good color, bad dress. To me it looks cheap and like a bad rendition of something Stevie Nicks would wear. It's all the scarfy looking stuff on the skirt and arms that displease me.
WORST: Dawn Richards in Khosrov.
Is this memorable? Absolutely! Is it artful? Sure. Is it a dress you should wear to an awards show? I don't think so. This is a piece of art that should be displayed in a museum or worn as a costume in a Broadway show.
WORST: Caroline Polachek in Olivier Theyskens.
This dress is also a little too costumey for me. Wear it for Halloween, a part in the show Wednesday, or to a goth convention, but maybe not to the Grammys. It is dramatic, though.
