The 81st Golden Globes ceremony went down on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. I, for one, am so here for award shows right now because I need a break from the heaviness of so much of what’s going on in the world. Plus, I really love to see what celebrities wear even when I don’t love what they are wearing.
More from MamásLatinas: 2024 Golden Globes red carpet looks that made us swoon
I actually kind of love the “worst dressed” at any star-studded award show because it means that those celebrities took a chance and didn’t opt for something safe or so-called flattering. It may not appeal to me, but I’m not the one wearing it.
Here are what I consider some of the worst dressed celebrities at the 2024 Golden Globes. You might be surprised and disagree. Good! We’re not all supposed to have the same sense of style.
Rosamund Pike wore Dior Haute Couture.
Listen, the entire look is very memorable—unforgettable even. It’s just that the headpiece reminds me of a lampshade. The dress itself is pretty, the shoes are fun, but that thing on her head is all I can see.
Billie Eilish wore Willy Chavarria.
I actually kind of love this look because it is so Billie. This is her style and I love that she isn’t catering to anyone else’s tastes. I only chose her as a worst-dressed candidate because I know so many people don’t like what she wore. Would I love it on me? Nope. But I love it on her.
Emily Blunt wore Alexander McQueen.
Why the tulle? The top of the dress is beautiful, the bottom of the dress is not. It looks like she’s wearing a slip that is meant for a different dress. Maybe if the tulle were in a different shade it would work, but the white against the gold looks wrong-ish.
Will Ferrell wore Giorgio Armani.
Is it me or does Will Ferrell look like he is part of the wait staff somewhere? I want to ask him to refill my glass of water or to clear my plate. He doesn’t look bad, he just looks like he’s going to work at a fancy restaurant.
Fantasia Barrino wore Dolce & Gabbana
If you have not seen The Color Purple yet, you must! Fantasia is extraordinary in it. Ugh, I want to cry just thinking about her performance. The dress that she wore to the Golden Globes isn’t my favorite, though. It’s almost like three dresses were cut up and sewn together to create a Frankendress.
Margo Robbie wore Armani Privé.
Margo Robbie is lovely and I loved Barbie, but this Barbie pink outfit is a little too on the nose for me. I get why she wore it, but it’s predictable and the scarf/boa thing looks stiff, scratchy, and cheapity-cheap.
Bella Ramsey wore Prada.
Bella Ramsey kept things simple and there’s nothing wrong with that. Their clothes are beautifully tailored and fit them well. I just wish the garments were in different colors. The blue and gray make the clothes seem too casual for an awards show.
Helen Mirren wore Dolce & Gabbana.
To be honest, in my eyes Helen Mirren can do no wrong. She could wear a paper sack and I would think she looked lovely in it. So, it’s not that I think she looks bad in this lavender Dolce & Gabbana ensemble—it’s more that if Helen were not wearing it, I would find it hideous.
Karen Gillan wore Iris Van Herpen Couture.
The dress is something for sure, but what? Is it a superhero costume, nana’s doilies sewn together, or a piece better suited for an art exhibit? Whatever it is, it upstages the Scottish actress instead of letting her shine.
Amanda Seyfried wore Armani Privé.
Honestly, this dress is just boring and that big bow does not make it more interesting. The design is meh, the bow is bleh, and the color combination isn’t particularly great. It’s not an awful gown, it’s just a big yawn.
