The 2021 American Music Awards went down on November 21 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Plenty of stars were in attendance and dressed to impress. Cardi B was the host. She was also nominated in three categories and ended up taking home the award for Favorite Hip-Hop Song. Congrats to Cardi, all the nominees, and all the winners. Now, let’s talk about what everyone wore on the red carpet because for some of us, the best part of any awards show is the fashion parade down the red carpet.
More from MamásLatinas: Cardi B's best moments hosting the 2021 American Music Awards
Unlike say the Oscars, or other awards ceremonies where you expect all attendees to be wearing fancy attire, celebs show up at the AMAs wearing all kinds of looks from designer gowns to more casual looking gear. For example, this year, Bad Bunny walked the red carpet wearing a puffer jacket, Cardi wore a gold mask at one point, and Billy Porter had an umbrella on his head. Check out the AMA red carpet looks for yourself.
Cardi B wore a mask on the red carpet.
Cardi B had many outfit changes throughout the ceremony and she even walked the red carpet in two different looks. One of the looks featured an off-the-shoulder Schiaparelli gown, which she topped off with a gold mask, statement earrings, and a veil. Definitely an interesting look, to say the least.
Becky G wore purple.
Becky G wore a purple dress by Raisa Vanessa that had cutouts down the center. The minidress had black accents and buckles. Becky G looked happy arriving, but she was probably happier when she left because she won the award for Favorite Female Latin Artist.
No suit for Bad Bunny.
Bad Bunny wore a mint puffer with pants that had straps to cinch them at the ankles, puffy-looking shoes and silver sunglasses. It was a rather casual red carpet look compared to others. On the way home, he accessorized with the award for Favorite Male Latin Artist that he won.
Chlöe wore a long black gown that showed leg and then some.
Chloe Elizabeth Bailey, who goes by Chlöe, walked the red carpet in a beautiful black dress with strategically placed cutouts. During the awards ceremony, she wowed while performing the song "Have Mercy."
Halle Bailey wore brown velvet.
Chlöe's sister, Halle Bailey, also wore a dress with lots of cutout details. Halle's brown velvet gown had a kind of crisscross lace up detail that went perfectly with her shoes. The color of the gown also looked great with her hair.
JoJo wore a matching thong.
The pop star looked ravishing in a shimmering silver gown that fit her like a glove. The gown featured a high slit in the front and cutouts at either side of the singer's hips. You could also make out a matching silver thong underneath the gown.
Anthony Ramos wore gray velvet.
The In the Heights actor looked suave and stylish in a gray velvet suit that had an embossed pattern on it. He finished off the look with a white shirt and black loafers, but his smile was what made the outfit. He was one of the presenters at the ceremony.
Coi Leray rocked a train.
The rapper walked the red carpet in a dazzling black one-shoulder gown with a train. The look was simple and elegant. Coi Leray was up for the Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist award that ended up going to Megan Thee Stallion.
Iann Dior wore red and black.
The rapper wore one of the most memorable looks of the evening. He wore a red and black printed shorts suit with no shirt, black socks, and chunky black shoes. He accessorized with necklaces, rings, and bracelets. It's not a look everyone could pull off, but somehow, he did.
Kali Uchis went with baby pink from head to toe.
The singer made a few "worst dressed" lists because of the baby pink ensemble with a boudoir feel that she wore on the AMA red carpet, but who cares? As long as she felt good in it, which she sure seemed to, then it was a good choice.
Larray wore a flowery suit.
The YouTuber wore a floral print suit and red platform shoes. The suit fit him perfectly and the whole look and cut reminded us of something that the late, great Prince would have worn.
Liza Koshy had a fun silhouette.
Liza Koshy was one of the presenters. She walked the red carpet in a strapless black dress and over-knee-boots. She looked adorable and the best part of her look was the silhouette of the dress because it was out there.
Madelyn Cline did the cutout thing.
The Outer Banks actor wore a slinky black dress that was more cutouts than actual dress. The dress, designed by Mônot, fit her exquisitely. She wore it with elbow length gloves and black pumps.
Olivia Rodrigo wore sheer sequins.
Olivia Rodrigo, who won the New Artist of the Year Award, wore a lavender dress covered in translucent sequins and finished with a wide trim of feathers. The dress, designed by David Koma, was sheer and gave you a clear view of the artist's high-waisted underwear.
Tate McRae showed some leg.
The Canadian singer wore an off-white blazer with amazing billowy sleeves. The blazer was worn with nothing underneath and showed off Tate's toned legs. She wore chunky black boots to finish off her look.
Zoe Wees was all about the orange braids.
Zoe Wees performed "Girls Like Us" at the awards show. On the red carpet she wore a white hoodie with black lettering under a white and silver vest. Her orange braids went all the way down to the carpet.
Ilda Mason wore white and gold.
The Panamanian actress, who plays Luz in the 2021 West Side Story film, wore a white mini-dress with wide shoulders. One of the shoulders was covered in bold gold chains. She kept the rest of her look simple.
Marsai Martin wore a multicolored gown.
She wore a high-necked Missoni gown that shimmered and sparkled. Her hair was in braids and her eye makeup was just the right amount of dramatic. It's hard to believe that we've seen the Black-ish actor grow up before our eyes and turn into a stylish and poised young lady.
Machine Gun Kelly brought his daughter.
Honestly, who cares what Machine Gun Kelly was wearing?! The best part of his red carpet look was that he had his daughter, Casie Colson Baker, by his side. She must have been his good luck charm because he won the award for Favorite Rock Artist.
Billy Porter wore an umbrella.
Billy Porter, who was one of the evening's presenters, wore a vibrant blue suit by Botter that showed off a bit of the actor's chest. The suit was surprisingly not the most eye-catching part of his look, though. It was the umbrella headband Billy wore in the same shade of blue that really turned heads.
