Cardi B put an end to the whole, did-she-or-didn't-she get liposuction debate earlier in May during the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis when she was on stage and announced, "I have some news for y'all. I should have canceled today. I shouldn't really be performing because moving too much is gonna f— up my lipo."
More from MamásLatinas: The lavish life of Cardi B's baby Kulture
We knew she had been considering getting lipo after giving birth to Kulture Kiari, her daughter with Offset, because she got real about how she was feeling in an Instagram Live video last year, saying her tummy was not as tight as it used to be. In the video posted in August, about seven weeks after she gave birth, Cardi said, "I'm might just get a little lipo, you know what I'm sayin'?" But then, two months later, she posted an Instagram Story showing off her killer abs and saying "I never did lipo, bro. Never."
Except she did and now she's ready to talk about it and we'll tell you why.
Why is she admitting to getting liposuction after having denied it?
During an interview at the launch of her second Fashion Nova collection, Cardi was asked why she felt it was important to talk about her liposuction and remove the "stigma around it." Her response was, "It was important for me because I don't like lying about things."
Why did she deny it in the first place?
Cardi didn't address why she originally said in October 2018 that "she never did lipo," but I'm sure we can all agree that the stigma around getting liposuction is real. Maybe she just wasn't ready for all the judgment. After all, people like to judge and lipo is considered an easy way out, but is it really?
According to Cardi, lipo ain't easy.
If you think someone gets lipo and is good to go instantly, think again. “Like, when you see somebody that had lipo, you think that they just go into the doctor’s and like, boop, you come out and you look amazing, but it’s actually, like, a very long process, recovery,” said Cardi. “It actually takes like a little bit more than three or four months.”
Cardi has also been honest about having breast implants.
In September 2018, Cardi talked about how she was going to get her breasts redone in a video she posted on Instagram. She shared that she had already had her breasts "done" when she was 19, but felt the need to get them done again because "Now Kulture did me filthy." She went on to say, "Matter of fact, I’m not even gonna call it surgery. I’m just gonna say a titty renovation." Hilarious!
Is she oversharing or doing all moms a solid?
Cardi doesn't have to tell anyone about her breast implants or liposuction if she doesn't want to, but we're glad she's been so candid about it. Moms everywhere know that the changes that happen to your body after carrying and giving birth to a child can be hard to accept and pictures of celebrities "bouncing back" almost immediately after having a baby can make those of us who don't bounce back immediately–or ever–feel like crap. But when a celebrity like Cardi is transparent about what she has actually done to look the way she does post-baby instead of acting like it's no big deal to have a body like hers, it's a breath of fresh air.
We can't all have abs like Cardi and we don't all want to get lipo or implants, but we can all appreciate candor and transparency.
