Celebrities were decked out in some of the most stunning and jaw-dropping looks in fashion history at the Met Gala 2019. Fashion's biggest night took place on Monday, May 6, and the stars did not disappoint with their fascinating looks. This year's annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, which takes place every year on the first Monday of May, brought out the biggest stars in entertainment wearing outfits that fit the theme.
This year's theme for the red carpet revolved around the Costume Institute's exhibition "Camp: Notes on Fashion." It was inspired by a 1964 essay written by Susan Sontag, in which she described "camp" as being the "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration."

While prior years' themes have had celebrities and designers wearing similar attire, this year allowed for more creativity. The stars arrived in their most extravagant, over-the-top, fun, and whimsical dresses and gowns, with all kinds of vibrant and magical colors.
The carpet was pink this year, and it was heavily decorated with bright pink flowers. Many stars also wore various shades of pink, like Lady Gaga, who arrived in a gigantic fuchsia gown and completely stole the show from the start. The A Star Is Born actress revealed four different looks while changing right there on the carpet–and it was insane! Jennifer Lopez looked like a dream, Kris Jenner looked like a different person, and Kim Kardashian, as always, left everyone in awe. Scroll through to see some of the most incredible looks from the 2019 Met Gala.
Cardi B's look was insanely beautiful.
All eyes were on Cardi when she walked down the carpet wearing this red gown that took over so much floor space! Her hair was covered up with a matching headpiece, and it took many men to help her with her gown's train.
Jennifer Lopez played it safe with sequins.
J.Lo wore a mini, form-fitting sequined Versace dress. The silhouette is something we have seen on her before, but there's no denying she continues to look amazing.
Kim Kardashian looked like a mermaid out of water.
Kim's dress was designed by Thierry Mugler, and she said it was inspired by a California girl coming out of the water, which explains the crystals hanging off the form-fitting dress. The style and design made her waist look tiny!
The Jenner sisters absolutely killed it.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner looked like absolute goddesses in custom Versace. The sisters walked the carpet together, complementing each other so well with the colors and their massive feathers. What a dream!
Thalía made us all so proud.
Thalía knows how to serve a look! This gravity-defying hairstyle took her whole outfit to the next level.
Maluma was representing for his people and looked so darn good.
Maluma is cementing himself as not just a pretty boy but also a fashion icon. The singer wore Jeremy Scott to the gala and looked incredible.
Of course, our Latino stars like Salma Hayek also came to represent.
Salma looked like total royalty. While we've seen this sort of look on her before, if it's not broken, why fix it?
Lady Gaga's first gown was jaw-dropping.
She opened up the red carpet and promised that she would be putting on a show–and she delivered. Under this gigantic fuchsia gown by Brandon Maxwell, she hid three other outfits.
She managed to fit an entire gown under her first!
This look also showed off the $2 million worth of Tiffany diamonds that had been hiding under the first gown.
Gaga stripped down to another fuchsia dress for her third look.
This is a lot different from the first gown she had on, but it fits her like a dream. It's hard to believe how she managed to walk around with so many dresses on.
Gaga's fourth and final look was simpler but more daring than the rest.
Gaga ended up in a bra and panties for her final look on fashion's biggest night. Who needs a gown when you can just wear underwear, right?
Of course, Alex Rodriguez was by J.Lo's side.
It's insane how great of a couple these two are. They are so good-looking and just make each other look even better.
Nicki Minaj served major glamorous Barbie vibes.
This beautiful high-low dress is perfect for showing off those strappy heels, and the color goes so well with the carpet.
Céline Dion made quite a statement.
The singer made sure the world knew she was never going to take off her headpiece. She wore a feathered metallic ensemble by Oscar de la Renta and looked phenomenal.
Kris Jenner was unrecognizable at the Met Gala.
The Kardashian momager wore a straight blonde wig, which is far from her usual short, black pixie cut. Those big statement shoulders were seen often on the carpet this year, and there's no denying Kris looks nothing like her usual self.
Serena Williams looked like a dream.
Serena kept it whimsical with a bright yellow and pink gown with big shoulders. The best part? She wore Nike sneakers.
Mindy Kaling was a vision in gold.
Mindy was totally glowing in her outfit. The color and her bright blonde wig made her stand out against the pink carpet.
Laverne Cox served major drama.
From her stylized makeup to her dramatic gown, Laverne nailed the theme perfectly.
Billy Porter had quite an arrival.
Billy Porter is known for making major fashion statements, and this year was no different. He did not simply walk onto the red carpet; he was carried by six men on a bed like an Egyptian god. When he finally got down, he showed off his impressive and massive wings.
Anna Wintour went along with the theme.
The Vogue editor-in-chief, who is also the host of fashion's biggest night, wore a floral dress with a feather coat draped over her shoulders.
Lupita Nyong'o nailed the theme!
Lupita Nyong'o took it all the way and really committed to the camp theme. Her look is over-the-top, colorful, and insane–but also so stunning.
Ciara made an entrance with her hair.
This was one of the most extravagant beauty and hair looks of the night, and the singer pulled it off so well. Her emerald green dress was also quite stunning.
Penélope Cruz was timeless, as usual.
Penélope represented Chanel and looked as classic as ever in a black and white dress and a high ponytail with short bangs.
