Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Cardi B were among the many celebrities who walked the red carpet of one of the biggest fashion events of the year, the Met Gala. While some celebs adhered to this year's "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic" theme with religious-inspired ensembles, others opted for more subtle outfits.

The Met Gala red carpet is the one place where stars can go all out and wear over-the-top outfits, and where designers can let their creativity run wild. Katy Perry, for example, made an entrance with massive feather wings, while Cardi B made her Met Gala debut in a showstopping ensemble complete with a headpiece. 

From embroidered gowns, cross embellishments, and huge headpieces to high slits and sexy cut-outs, check out some of the best and worst looks from the 2018 Met Gala.

J.Lo looked very sexy as she showed off her toned legs in a showstopping embroidered Balmain dress, which featured a long train, a red and blue cross on the bodice, and a mega-high slit.

Kim Kardashian looked like a true golden goddess.

The rapper made her Met Gala debut in an intricately embroidered Moschino gown, with matching choker and massive headpiece. Her dress featured a billowing silk train attached to the waist, which added some more drama to her over-the-top look.

The singer wore Jean Paul Gaultier and was styled by Eyob Yohannes, who described her look as immaculate goth queen.

"The religious theme most certainly played into the look, however we wanted to put a twist on it so we decided to make it all black," Yohannes told People. “Madonna has always woven in religion and spirituality into her music and image throughout her career. This [year's] theme could not have better suited her.”

Salma Hayek's dress depicted the biblical Garden of Eden.
