Stars rocked their natural hair at the Emmys & this is why it’s a big deal

__
Kerry Washington__ practically broke the internet when she showed up to last year's Emmys wearing her glorious natural hair. The same happened when Halle Berry showed off her curls at this year's Oscars. So you could imagine everyone's excitement when not one, not two, but FOUR celebs hit up the 2017 Emmy's red carpet rocking their natural hair. It's a bigger deal than you think and here's why!

More from MamásLatinas: The 13 best (& some not-so-hot) looks at the 2017 Emmys red carpet

There were a lot of gorgeous looks at last night's Emmy Awards, but we couldn't help but do a double take when we saw Yara Shahidi, Uzo Aduba, Anika Noni Rose, and Gabrielle Union wearing their hair naturally curly hair on the red carpet. These women looked like real-life goddesses.

Orange Is The New Black actress and nominee Uzo Aduba looked all kinds of amazing wearing a white metallic Sally LaPointe gown paired with her natural hair in a full afro. She's been sporting her natural hair a lot more this year and good for her–she looks amazing!

Black-ish actress Yara Shahidi looked like a curly haired princess with her natural hair worn in a slicked-back style. It looked amazing with that nude Prada gown with emerald beat detailing. This girl slayed like you wouldn't believe.

Power star Anika Noni Rose recently did the big chop and it was probably one of the best decisions she's made this year. Her cut had a very Halle Berry-ish feel to it, but five times edgier because of the shaved sides. She was working that Thai Nguyen Atelier dress too.

Last but not least, Gabrielle Union, who has been natural for a few years now. It even inspired her own hair care line, Flawless. So of course my expectations for her this night were high and of course Gabrielle didn't disappoint. She rocked her hair in a brushed-out, full power ponytail that gave me so much life. The hair was paired with a gorgeous Zuhair Murad black beaded cape gown that featured a sheer full length skirt.

Just look at all that amazing texture and volume.

I can't stress enough how important it is to see all kinds of beauty not just at award shows, but in film and TV too. Representation is so important. It reminds the rest of us normal people at home that we can be ourselves and still feel beautiful. It may not be a lot, but seeing four women of color at a big-deal Hollywood red carpet rocking their naturally curly and coiled hair is huge. It proves that there isn't once face to beauty and that beauty really does come in different sizes, skin tones, features and hair textures.

Cheers to seeing more beautiful curls at future red carpets!
