"As people understand the importance of good health for longevity and a better quality life, they are now open to the concept of energy," says Kristin Petrovich, co-founder of Själ skincare and author of Elemental Energy. “We are energetic beings and crystals inherently have an energy that we relate with and are drawn to. Technology has been using crystals for decades now in radios, computers, and cell phones and more recently Western medicine has been using precious minerals such as gold and platinum in cancer medication. As our world has had monumental shifts over the past decade, we are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of our energy."

"We are made up of water, tissues, and minerals and our bone structure is crystalline,” says Petrovich. "Just as we have an electronic exchange with the Earth, we have stones. However, they vibrate at a higher frequency which can create an electronic exchange in our bodies. When used in skincare or in a treatment, the crystal energy helps to harmonize or balance skin by moving towards a weaker frequency." To help detox both your mind and face, try Själ’s Rose Aura Cleansing Set ($140).

“Copper is instant energy and is good for skin that suffers from sagging or loss of elasticity,” says Petrovich. “If you are using a copper wand or sphere directly in skin, use it in small amounts and do not use if you suffer from any kind of skin irritation or inflammation as you do not want to stimulate areas with such conditions.” Try Själ’s Copper Perfecting Facial Treatment ($250).

"The easiest way would be to use tumbled or round stones or wands to do massages on the skin," says Petrovich. "Just make sure to put moisturizer or oil on your skin before performing the facial. Glide slowly and gently. Stones such as hematite and bloodstones can be great for gentle eye massages and acupressure. Rose quartz is my favorite for a gentle massage."

"Quartz are normally a safe bet in the water," says Petrovich who recommends using stones like clear quartz, smokey quartz, citrine, and amethyst. "I use the different stones according to how I feel and what I am looking to achieve. For example, if I want calming I’ll use rose quartz, spiritual connection and healing an amethyst, grounding and energizing a smokey quartz and clear quartz for clearing.” She also recommends adding Himalayan or sea salt to complement the bath along with essential oils and dried flowers.
