Kim Kardashian is DONE with caked makeup & shows us how to get her natural look

I remember the days when you could see Kim Kardashian's shimmery cheekbones from a mile away. Highlighting was her thing. And thanks to her, it's effing huge right now! Every brand is coming out with highlighters–even Kylie launched a line. But if you've noticed, Kim hasn't been wearing caked on makeup or dramatic highlighter anymore. She's been sporting a much more natural look ever since her traumatic Paris robbery. For the first time ever, Kim explains to us what inspired the change while her makeup artist and BFF Mario Dedivanovic breaks down how to achieve her new look!

Kim might not be all about that caked on highlighting life but that doesn't mean she's done away with highlighter completely. These days she's using a much more subtle highlighting method to lift and define those gorgeous cheek bones and I'm ALL about it. Mario shared the secrets and broke down the steps on Kim's app and site Kimkardashianwest.com. "The look is called "Shimmer and Shine" and it's a lot cleaner and polished than the makeup looks Kim was rocking just a year ago.

She's been home for the past few months watching cartoons all day," Mario says of Kim. "That's all I watch," she adds. The look is natural, dewy with a subtle hint of shimmer and shine, so that she looks almost barefaced but flawless.

Now if you're thinking the robbery is the inspiration behind Kim's low-key look, think again. It's her previous makeup looks that made her realize it was time for a change. "Sometimes I look at our show and I'll see all of the highlighter we would use," Kim says. "So much highlighter caked on our faces and it looked crazy. So I just want a natural way to make you look like you glow and still have the highlighter but just not caked on."

Mario started off by applying a light layer of cream foundation to Kim's face. Then he used a fluffy brush to apply the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder ($38)  to Kim's eyelids. Mario applied Wow by Woojoh Cream Eyeshadow Stick in Sugar Chai ($17) along Kim's lash line then softly blended.

Afterwards, he gently pats on Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in Seduction ($44), it's a bronzey highlighter that adds an instant glow. "The look that we're going for is more soft and blown out, so we don't have too heavy of an eyeshadow," Mario says.  Kim's makeup was already looking all kinds of gorgeous and goddess-like.

Mario then mixed together matte shades from his Master Palette by Mario (which is unfortunately sold out) and applied it to the crease of Kim's eyelids to add definition. The shades he used were Violeta, Lula and Isabel. The Hollywood shade was used to highlight her brow bone. Kim's eyes were then lined with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Smog ($20).

The next step was to highlight Kim's under eyes without it looking too heavy or cakey. Mario applied the Laura Mercier Candleglow Concealer and Highlighter ($32) under her eyes and down the bridge of her nose. He used a combination of shades 2 and 3 and then blended using the beautyblender original ($20).

Kim's lower waterlines were also lined with a lip liner. Mario used Kylie Cosmetics  Lip Liner in True Brown ($14) and then smudged it with a clean makeup brush. The under eye area was set with the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder ($38) and also applied all over the face using a big fluffy brush. Some light shimmer was applied to the inner corner of the eyes followed by a layer of mascara to upper lashes. Mario contoured Kim's jawline, cheekbones and hairline with the Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate Cream Bronzer ($80) and then highlighted the cheekbones using the Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder in Addiction ($44). The final look was beyond flawless.

Seriously, look at those cheeks! Okay, so it's a lot of tips for a bare-faced makeup look, but if you want to just focus on the highlight part, you can just start with a subtle highlighter like the Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in whatever shade works best for you.

While I don't see highlighters (even the dramatic heavy ones) going away anytime soon, it's good to know that there are softer and subtle ones out there for girls like myself that appreciate a clean, more natural look. Kim's makeup is the kind of look I can legit rock every day!
