Switch to a more hydrating shampoo.
Drop the lather shampoo and opt for a cleansing conditioner that’s going to cleanse and deeply hydrate curls. Try DevaCurl No-Poo Decadence ($22). This milk-based formula is ultra-moisturizing. Delgado recommends using this product once a week.
Do a deep conditioner treatment.
"Winter could be harsh on our hair," says Delgado. "Apply a conditioning treatment that will give hair that extra protection and moisture that it needs to survive the colder months." Try Ouidad Curl Immersion Triple Treat Deep Conditioner ($38).
Switch to a curl cream.
"Cream based stylers will keep your curls smooth and moisturized," says Delgado, who recommends DevaCurl Styling Cream Touchable Curl Definer ($26). "It gives you the right amount of hold with a soft, touchable wear."
Use a curl defining curl cream.
For tighter, curlier coils, opt for an ultra-moisturizing curling cream that’s specifically designed to give coarse textures more hydration and definition. Try Hair Rules Kinky Curling Cream ($32).
Use a leave-in conditioner.
To keep curls hydrated, apply a leave-in conditioner from roots to ends before styling. Try Cantu Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream ($6).
Use a detangling product.
Colder weather leaves hair more prone to drying, breakage and tangling. Look for a deep conditioner that also helps to gently detangle ends. Try Mixed Chicks Detangling Deep Conditioner ($11).
Use a hair gel that’s not going to dry out curls.
When it comes to styling products, make sure you look for one that’s going to add moisture not cause dryness. The Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker ($22) is formulated with smoothing marshmallow and agave to give curls hold without the crunch.
Try a natural oil.
Natural oils like argan or almond oil, help deeply nourish curls without weighing them down. Try SheaMoisture 100% Pure Argan Oil Head to Toe Smoothing ($9).
