Highlighters are hands down one of the best makeup items–ever. All you need to fake a healthy, luminous glow is a few swipes of this magical invention. "We're living in the digital age of makeup and it's all about capturing that shine on the cheekbone to add dimension," says celebrity makeup artist Stephanie Flor. Fortunately, there are options for everyone. Here's some of the best highlighters for every skin tone.

Pale skin
“Pearl-colored shades work great on pale to fair skin,” says Flor. “I recommend Clinique's Uplifting Illuminating Powder in Nude Glow ($27). She adds, "Powders are great for lighter complexions because it doesn’t look oily or like you’re wearing too much makeup. It also gives you more of a natural finish.”
Light
For light complexions with cool undertones, look for a pink-based highlighter, like the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Charming Pink ($26). “I like how it blends with my skin color,” says our staff writer, Sugey Palomares. “It’s also super easy to apply just using my fingers.”
Medium to olive
For medium or olive complexions (like Jennifer Lopez), Flor recommends a soft golden-bronze highlighter, like MAC Mineralize SkinFinish in Gold Deposit ($32).
Medium to tan
I’m currently obsessed with Urban Decay’s Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder in Lit ($30). It looks great on warmer complexions.
Tan to Honey-toned
Bronze-based highlighters also work wonders on tan or honey-toned complexions (like Camila Alves or Beyoncé). Flor swears by Betty-Lou Manizer Bronzer/Shadow ($24).
Darker skin
For deeper skin tones (think Mindy Kaling or Lupita Nyong’o), Flor likes to use Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Topaz ($41). "This is by far one of my favorites for darker complexions," she says. "It’s a liquid highlighter that gives a radiant glow, while melting onto the skin."
