Your eye-shadow

Eye-shadow helps draw focal attention to one of the best features on your face, but what could be lurking inside the powdery substance may freak you out (it certainly gave me goosebumps!). An ingredient known as tallow is commonly used to mass produce eye-shadows. The substance is made by rendering animal fat. Where do the animals come from? Road kill, animal shelters and zoos. Pretty gross!

Your lipstick

The FDA has previously confirmed that lead is a common ingredient in most lipsticks out there. They also affirm that the levels of lead are too small to actually pose harm on consumers. If that wasn't freaky enough, some lipsticks also contain crushed cochineal beetles, which are native to South and Central America. They help provide that berry and red pigment we love so much.

Your perfume

Perfume can instantly boost our mood and make us feel fabulous, but what if I told you vomit was the chemical base for most scents? Ambergris, which is fancy for whale vomit, has been used to make our favorite fragrances. Most companies have replaced the ingredient with synthetic options–thankfully.

Your soap

Soap is meant to moisturize and refresh your skin, but watch out for soaps you purchase abroad. It seems moms may be to thank for it. According to Total Beauty, some soaps made internationally contain human breast milk. Gulp! Luckily the ingredient is banned from being used and mass distributed in the U.S.

Your nail polish

Ever wonder what's really inside your nail polish? Most contain a much of chemicals including guanine, which helps provide a sheen and shimmer to your favorite coats. Guanine is made from ground and processed fish scales. That's pretty fishy.

Your straightening treatment

Keratin treatments are commonly known to leave curly hair straighter and more manageable. What salons and your hairstylist failed to mention is that keratin is extracted from animal hooves, feathers and random hair from different animals. Now that doesn't sound too sexy.

Your conditioner

Leaving your hair silky and smooth is what conditioners are all about, but the base of them may be alarming. Some products contain panthenol, which is pulled from animal meats and honey. I hope the honey is used more often than the meat, but that's a gamble!

Your sunscreen

You may never look at sunscreen the same way again. The product is essential to guarding our skin from the damage of the sun, but some products use emu and skin mink oil. The fat is scraped from the back of the animal. Pretty gross.

Your body lotion

Quick absorbing body lotions have a little secret. Many of their formulas are made with squalene, which is shark liver oil. Really?! The good news is that some companies have decided to trade it in for good old fashioned olive oil.

Your anti-aging cream

A "revolutionary" anti-aging formula reportedly includes baby foreskin to create their complex of youthful skin ingredients. Forget wrinkles! That sounds like something to cry about.

Your hairspray

This is pretty hair raising! In European, bull semen is a common ingredient used in hair spray. The disgusting stuff is mixed with a plant extract to give it a strong hold. No thank you.
