10 Styles to avoid if you want to look thinner

The crop top, high-waisted trend has obviously become Kim Kardashian's signature look. She's worn so many variations of this style and yet owns it every single time. You have to give the girl credit where credit is due. Kim knows how to rock clothes that flatter her figure–most of the time at least! But I have to admit, that black long-sleeved crop top paired with those Alexander McQueen pants she wore for her Fleur Fatale fragrance event wasn't doing it for me. If anything it made her look at a lot wider in the waist area. Not a good call Kim!

If you were blessed with natural curves like Kim, you want to make sure you look for pieces that are going to accentuate your tiny waist, not hide it. Don't wear a belt with everything

Belts do a great job at cinching in your waist, but way too many women rely on it as their easy fashion fix. A form-fitted LBD like Salma Hayek’s doesn’t need an exaggerated, corset-looking belt. Just remember it’s not your only slimming-tool option.

Don’t put your belt right under your bust

Do you see where Snooki went wrong here? Rather than putting a belt right under your bust (at the widest part of your waist), move it down to where your waist curves, which is normally where most women are the thinnest. It makes all the difference—trust me!

Avoid bulging blouses

A big, loose top tucked in a mini skirt creates volume and can make you look bulging. It I was Xtina I would have gone for a smooth, fitted top instead.

Avoid dresses that hide your shape

Lala Anthony has an amazing hourglass figure but you’d never know it with this dress. Avoid pieces that hide your shape and always choose dress styles that accentuate your small waist, hips and curves.

Be careful with prints

The print on Sara Ramirez’s bodycon mini dress makes her waist look wider and her shape look boxy. For a top-heavy figure like hers, I’d recommend an illusion dress with dark panels on the side for a slimming effect.

Choose your texture wisely

The thick material on Morena Baccarin’s dress adds a lot of unwanted bulk. I’m all for structured dresses just chose one with a slimming and flattering texture.

Layer correctly

A structured blazer would have paired better with Demi Lovato’s sheath dress.

Be careful with A-line

A-line dresses flatters most figures, but make sure to find one that actually accentuates your waist. Paulina Rubio’s shape got lost in this one.

Where you place your belt counts

Thalia did more damage than good wrapping a belt below her waist line. The slouchy shirt doesn’t help either.

Khloe Kardashian

Who told Khloe Kardashian this looked okay? If you have a fuller butt, always go for a bodycon dress with more length. Too-short dresses can make your backside look bigger–unless that’s the look you’re going for!
