Doesn't matter where you're going, whether it's to a dinner party, a casual coffee shop or hitting up your local grocery store–walking around with deodorant stains is NEVER okay! It's almost as bad if not the same as sporting sweaty pit stains. Seriously, no one wants to see that. Problem is, they're not always so easy to prevent, no matter how careful you. Deodorant stains on clothes is something I identify with a little too well, especially since more than half of my wardrobe consists of black and dark clothing. It never fails: I make it to where I need to be and only then realize I have pesky white stripes all over my dress or shirt. So is there actually a way to keep stains off your stuff? I tested out a few tricks and tips and yes girl there is. Here are 5 ways you can get rid of (and prevent) deodorant stains once and for all!
Put your clothes on first: This might sound like an obvious one but you'd be surprised how many put on their clothes right after they apply. I always recommend either putting your clothes on first or waiting a minute or two for your deodorant to dry before slipping on that dress or blouse. This makes a big difference.
Don't apply so much: Over-application makes it either for white marks to appear. Only apply a very thin layer. A good working deodorant doesn't require you use so much at a time.
Your formula matters: A lot of deodorants claim to not cause stains and yet I still see the residue left behind. But Secret Outlast Completely Clean Clear Gel Deodorant ($4) actually works. Yes, even on black clothes.
Try stain erasers: I always notice stains when I'm already out of the house. Miss Oops Rescue Sponge ($12) works wonders to erase skid marks.
Use a shield: Garment shields ($10) are another genius way to protect your deodorant from running. You can keep them on all day (and night) without feeling a thing.
