DIY No-Poo helps repair color-treated hair with aloe vera

I had a lot of resolutions for 2014 and one of them was that I was going to finally kick all my regular shampoos to the curb. I've only been using sulfate-free formulas and cleansing conditioners since and let me tell you, it wasn't always easy. For a while my hair felt greasy and dirty. But now it's thicker, shinier and healthier. Only problem is, No-Poo, as they call it, can get a little pricey. I can easily spend around 20 bucks on just one cleansing conditioner bottle. That's freaking expensive!

Sulfate-free formulas work for everyone, but they especially benefit people with dry, damaged or color-treated hair. Why? Because they don't just cleanse but they also condition. A friend of mine with color-treated hair recommended making my own formula at home. She swore by coconut milk and aloe vera so I decided to finally give it a try. Check out the recipe below!

What you need:

1/4 cup of all-natural aloe vera gel

2 tablespoons of honey

1/2 cup of coconut milk

What to do:

1. I start off by mixing the coconut milk and the aloe vera gel together until there are no noticeable lumps.

2. Then I add in 2 tablespoons of honey and blend.

3. I rinse my hair with water and apply it and massage it on my hair the way I would shampoo.

4. Repeat and rinse out like usual.

Aloe vera doesn't just cleanse your hair, but it also helps remove any product build up or oil that might be clogging up your hair follicles. I love how well it clears my scalp of dandruff or dryness too. Honey deeply moisturizes and is perfect for color or chemically treated hair. While coconut is packed with vitamins and nutrients that strength hair and promote growth. Did I mention it doesn't cause color fading? These three ingredients really do make the perfect do-it-yourself No-Poo for color-treated hair!
