Restore dry, damaged hair with this all-natural avocado hair mask

I've had my fair share of ups and downs this year, but as vain as this might sound, one of the most upsetting problems has been my hair. I'm not exaggerating when I say my hair has been to hell and back. Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating a little. It's not like my hair fell out or anything, but it's definitely been through a lot. All the heat-styling gave me such severe heat-damage that I literally lost my natural curl pattern. I recently had to chop it all off and now I'm doing everything in my power to bring it back to health. And ones of those things is creating my own DIY protein hair mask!

A while back I heard about how protein treatment can help restore dry, damaged hair. But I was a little skeptical about purchasing a protein-based conditioning treatment. So being the DIY girl that I am, I decided to whip up one of my abuelita's favorite homemade hair masks–an avocado deep conditioning treatment! Avocados aren't just rich in protein, but also in fatty acids, which help hydrate and repair hair.

I've only done this mask twice in the past two months and I'm already seeing a huge difference. Want healthier hair? Then give this DIY Avocado & coconut hair mask a shot!

What you need:

1 small avocado mashed

2 tablespoons of coconut oil

2 tablespoons of honey

1 tablespoon of olive oil

What to do:

1. Usually start off by mashing one avocado using a fork. Or if you want to make your life easier, just transfer it to a blender.

2. Once the avocado is pureed I add the coconut oil, the honey and the olive oil and blend everything together.

3. Then I apply it all over my hair from roots to ends. I cover with a shower cap (like I am below) and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before rinsing out.

4. I recommend applying to dirty hair and then shampooing and conditioning as usual. The heavy oils can leave hair a little limp and greasy.
