Change your shampoo too often

Ladies, it’s a myth, you don’t have to change your shampoo because your hair will get used to it and stop working. If your shampoo works, keep it! Only swap it out it if the texture of your hair changes because you colored or relaxed it. You should add to the mix a clarifying shampoo to free yourself of residue build-up.

Product overkill

I know they are out there in the overwhelming hair care aisle, but you don’t have to buy them all and use them at the same time. Using too many products clogs the hair follicles and dries your hair. All you need is a good shampoo and conditioner, a dry shampoo for greasy days, a heat protective serum before using hot tools and something to control the frizz. And don’t use them all at once, only as needed.

Comb it when wet

Wet hair is delicate and vulnerable because the hair follicles are open and they could break easily. When hair breaks, it frizzes. You should only handle wet hair with a wide-tooth comb and not with a brush. Don’t use a tight comb because it will wreak havoc on your hair.

Wash it with hot water

Hot water is your hair´s worst enemy, because it will burn the hair follicles and dry the roots. It also removes color easily. The best water temperature for your hair is lukewarm to open the hair follicles and allow the product to be absorbed. Then you should rinse with cold water to close the follicles allowing them to seal in the moisture.

Wash it every day

This behavior is killing your hair because healthy hair needs its natural oils to absorb nutrients. Ideally you should wash your hair every third day or at least every other day so the oil from the root can reach the ends. If you have to wash it daily, you should buy a dry shampoo and apply it on the roots so you can hold out for another 24 hours. You´ll see the difference right away and enjoy shinier and healthier looking hair!

Never cut it!

Healthier short hair is better looking than long damaged hair with split ends. Ideally you should trim your hair every month. You want to make sure you nourish your roots. You don’t have to cut inches off; a little trim will do the trick.

Never wash your brushes

I’m guilty of this one! I rarely clean my brushes and I see the difference in my hair when I do. We should clean them after every use and sterilize them once a month by submerging them in water with baking soda. Whenever we brush our hair with a dirty brush we are passing the dirt, oil and residue from the brush back into the hair. Women with greasy hair should only use combs to brush and style.

Skip the heat shield

You need to apply a heat-resistant spray before using hot styling tools because we need to create a barrier between the hair and the heat. You should always use the tools at the medium heat setting and take a little longer styling so you don’t burn the hair follicles. If you have greasy hair you should only apply the heat spray on the hair and not the roots.
