Girl wears short skirt, gets publicly shamed at school

A high school girl from Florida was publicly humiliated by school administrators for supposedly violating school dress code. Miranda Larkin is a new student at Oakleaf High School and on her third day of classes chose to wear a skirt that almost fell to her knees. But because it didn't reach them exactly–as required by the school–she was forced to wear this mortifying shame suit—poor kid!

A teacher walked up to Miranda pointed at her and said, "Your skirt is too short." The teen was then sent to the nurse's office where she was forced to change into a "shame suit" which consisted of a neon yellow shirt and red sweatpants that both read: "Dress Code Violation." Can you believe this crap? What is this, The Scarlett Letter?

High school students are insecure enough, how can you have them walking around in an outfit like that in front of all their peers? That's just begging for them to get bullied and laughed at. This poor girl wound up calling her mother from the bathroom, hysterically crying. "She put on the outfit in the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror and just broke down. She started sobbing and broke out in hives," her infuriated mother, Dianna Larkin told USA Today.

Miranda claims she's new to the school and didn't know anything about the dress code. Regardless, it was completely uncalled for and unnecessary to treat the kid like she'd done something shameful, just because she was showing a little extra leg.

"I feel that by putting a kid in an outfit that says what they did wrong across their chest and down their leg … that's a clear violation of their privacy rights … If you don't like [the dress code], tough, you have to get punished," her mom added. "But punishment shouldn't involve humiliation … You wouldn't do that to an adult. How could you do it to a kid?"

I completely agree with Miranda's mother. Teens deal with enough bullying by their  peers on a regular basis, they don't need it from their freaking teachers too!
