Sofia left behind her bombshell image wearing an outfit fit for any dowdy soccer mom and Chilindrina-esque hair and makeup. The Barranquilla native wowed her on-screen Modern Family costars who I'm sure had never before seen her looking like that. Did Sofía have a meltdown? Well sort of: Her Modern Family character, Gloria, had a nervous attack in one of season 6's scenes.
It was really out of character for her! Especially since she's confessed on more than one occasion that the natural look just isn't her. According to Sofia herself, that vanity was passed down from her family: "My mom taught us to take care of ourselves and always be put together, from head to toe," she told me exclusively recently. "I always use lipstick. Right after I gave birth, the first thing I did was paint my lips! I never go out without it, it's a part of my personality," she told us.

But she never loses sight of her eyes: "If you see me without makeup, my eyes disappear. That's why I put on mascara the moment I step out of the shower. It's more than a matter of image, it makes me feel sexy and attractive."

Sofia stresses the importance of taking time out for yourself, especially as moms. "Motherhood has been the craziest experience of my life. The best advice I ever got from my own mom was to stop, breathe and take a couple of hours just for me, for Sofia. You can't let the world weigh you down."

A beauty trick that has worked for her? "Mami always told me to use cold water at the end of every shower–and do this day I do it. She says that it helps with circulation and with skin's firmness."

Sofia loves luxury brands and shares her philosophy regarding beauty purchases: "In my bathroom, you'll find Tom Ford perfumes or Creme de la Mer products, but you'll never see any mascara worth more than $10. It's not that I'm cheap, it's just that it's not worth it to spend so much on makeup when the important thing is the health of your skin."
