7 Mistakes you NEED to stop making with your eyebrows

If there's one thing I'm anal about, it's my eyebrows. Maybe it's because my naturally thick and long brows require high maintenance or maybe I've seen too many bad brows in my lifetime. Either way, I definitely know a thing or two when it comes to brow mistakes. Don't think you need tips? If you're still sporting tadpole brows that date back to the 90s or brows so dark they look like you filled them in with a Sharpie, then you might want to sit down and read this. And yes girl, there is such thing as too big and bold!

Believe it or not, brows are pretty darn important. They can easily make or break your face. I've seen brows that make some women look years older and then brows that nicely accentuate features (think Kim Kardashian). Swear your brows are on point? Think again, chica. Here are a few brow mistakes you're probably making!

Too big & bold

I'm all for big, beautiful brows but there IS a limit. Brows like Demi Lovato's look too harsh on her face and take the focus away from her pretty, brown eyes. I'd recommend having an expert thread them in a way that still maintains its natural shape.

Too thin

Believe it or not, I still see a ton of Latinas rocking these paper thin, penciled-in brows. They're not cute and they also add years to your face. Got thin brows? Try growing them out using castor or rosemary oil. And lightly fill them in using an eyebrow shaping kit, like Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings ($32).

Too bushy

Sofia Vergara's brows are great, but a itty bit of tweezing below her arches would make them look cleaner and more polished. I love the Tweezerman Pink Perfection Slant Tweezer ($22). It gets even those stubborn pelitos out with no problem.

Too dark

Christina Milian's too tinted eyebrows look like she filled them in with a black Sharpie marker. For a softer look, use an eyebrow pencil in one shade lighter than your brow hairs. Then gently pass a brow brush over them. I love Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil Duo ($23).

Too round

Brows that are two angled are harsh on the face, but brows that are too round don't compliment a big pair of eyes like Nicole Richie's. Make sure you're not plucking out hairs above the arch, only below.

Too squared

Demi's squared brows look completely unnatural and don't suit her face shape. I'd grow them out and then see a professional who can give you a shape that won't just compliment your features but that you're easily able to maintain at home.

Too drawn in

Adrienne Bailon overly drawn eyebrows look like they were painted on with makeup. Remember less is more. The trick is to gently feather on individual brows where needed, not draw on a complete set.
