In fact, People's editorial director Jess Cagle claims that they had Lupita in mind for the magazine's Most Beautiful list from day one. "There was really no contest this year," Cagle said on the Today show. "She seemed like the only choice."
Makes perfect sense to me, especially considering how well she's doing career wise now too. The girl was all over award season this year with Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for her role in 12 Years a Slave, her fashion icon status and that powerful beauty speech she made at the Black Women in Hollywood luncheon where she opened up about how she used to think that "light skin" and flowing, straight hair" was what made a woman beautiful. I'm telling you this girl is on fire!
Cagle claims that it's obvious that Lupita is beautiful and talented, "But the way she carries herself with such grace … put her over the top," he said.
