Bride does the unthinkable on her wedding day!

I'm definitely not one of those girls who has a problem leaving their house without makeup. If anything I love giving my skin a break and a chance to breathe. But there are definitely a few occasions I'd never go bare-faced to. A Saturday night out, a day out with my suegra (you gotta stay on point when you're around the in-laws), a job interview and of course–my wedding day! So I was shocked when I heard about how one bride went BEYOND and did the absolutely unthinkable on her big day!

The bride decided to show up to her own wedding without a trace of makeup on her face!

Carolyn Markey shared with HuffPost live why she chose to go bare-faced on the big day. "I don't normally wear makeup so when I was thinking about my wedding, I really didn't want to not recognize myself," she told HuffPost Live. "Because whenever I do sometimes wear makeup, I look really weird and I don't think I look like myself. So I wanted to make sure I was comfortable in my own skin … I just wanted to be as natural as possible."

I agree with Carolyn, in that I definitely think that you should look as natural as possible on your wedding. But I don't think that means you actually have to ditch the makeup. Sorry, but I'm not willing to walk down the aisle with mascara-free lashes and little manchas. So I spoke to makeup artist and mom-of-two Liza Almodovar (who also happens to be my prima!) on how to create a natural makeup look for your wedding whether you're getting it done professionally or going DIY!

Get a clean & smooth complexion

Liza says the key to a flawless but natural-looking bridal makeup look, is good skin. "You want them to exfoliate like a couple of days before. Not on the actual wedding so their skin doesn't look red and irritated," she says. "Also, moisturize like crazy days before and on the day of the wedding." She recommends an oil-free formula, like Embryolisse Emulsion Hydra-Mat ($40).

Prep the face

"First thing I do is spray a water mist and then let it sit," Liza says. Try the Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Perfecting Water Moisture Mist ($38). "Then I moisturize, let it sit and then apply foundation."

Use a semi-matte foundation

Liza recommends applying a semi-matte foundation that's going to leave your skin smooth and polished for hours. She's a big fan of Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup ($37). It comes in a variety of shades and literally stays flawless all day.

Blend

"I use a brush first when applying foundation, then I damp the Beauty Blender ($20) after so it all blends," Liza says. "This stuff works wonders!"

Keep your eyes neutral

Liza recommends using a neutral shadow palette, like Urban Decay Naked ($54) to create a soft and subtle smoky eye. Layer on a few coats of mascara, followed by individual falsies applied at the end.

Highlight

Instead of contouring, Liza likes to highlight the bride's cheek bones with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush ($35). It highlights while also adding a natural-looking flush of color.

Do natural lips

For natural-looking lips, Liza suggests exfoliating lips first and then applying lipstick using a brush. "This helps create a stain that you can layer over. Then I have them blot and finish off with lipgloss on top." But she recommends using a pink lipcolor palette to help create a signature color that's going to help compliment your skintone. Try Rouge Artist Lip Palette in Warm Pink ($39).
