5 Steps to healthy, luscious hair

Eva Mendes seems to have it all these days. Good looks, her own fashion line with New York & Company and in case you still haven't heard yet, Ryan Gosling's baby on the way!  I have to admit, though, I'm sort of bummed out that Eva's been avoiding paparazzi. I was looking forward to checking out her pregnancy style and her gorgeous head of hair. Eva's hair literally looks perfect ALL the time, so imagine how awesome it must be now with all those hormones rushing through her system!

I'm telling you, Eva's hair always look so thick and healthy. Seriously, what is this girl's secret?  Well for starters, she's really big on keeping it moisturized. "I like to condition my hair overnight," she told the Huffington Post over a year ago.

You can use any Pantene conditioner but I prefer the Breakage to Strength. Put it all over your hair before you go to sleep and leave it in a shower cap until morning. Then rinse and voilà. Warning: although your hair will be grateful, the shower cap look isn't the sexiest, so maybe do it on a night when he's not around.

I bet, especially if your man is Ryan Gosling, right?

Anyhow, deep conditioning your hair is just one of the many thing you can do to keep it healthy and luscious. Here are 5 ways to get your hair looking as gorgeous as Eva's 24/7!

1. Switch your shampoo: Most shampoos contain chemicals that strip hair of its natural oils. Keep your strands healthy and shiny with a sulfate-free, moisturizing formula like L'Oréal Paris EverStrong Sulfate-Free Anti-Breakage Shampoo ($7). It helps strengthen weak and damaged hair from the inside out, while also preventing breakage and split ends.

2. Do a deep conditioner: Nothing gets rid of dryness and repairs damage quite like a deep conditioning treatment. Apply at least once a week and leave on for 10-20 minutes depending on how dry your hair is. I'm obsessed with Kerastase Masque Elixir Ultime ($65). It's pricey but SO worth it!

3. Use a heat protectant spray: Stepping away from the styling tools is one of the best ways to get healthy hair, but for most of us putting down the blow-dryer is nonnegotiable. To prevent breakage and further damage, make sure to apply a heat protective product to damp hair before styling, like Drybar Hot Toddy Heat Protector Frizz Fighter ($33). It leaves hair silky, smooth too!

4. Seal split ends: The only way to really get rid of split ends is with a trim. But to keep them smooth in between hair appointments, try a split end treatment like Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Split Ends Mender ($6).

5. Boost shine: I try doing a hair gloss treatment at least once a month to help my hair look healthier and shiner. Try John Frieda Clear Shine Luminous Glaze ($10). You apply it just the way you would a hair dye only with this, you don't have to worry about ruining your color.
