NYFW: The cutest new mani trends straight from the runway

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and I couldn't be more excited. But while the clothes are fabulous, it looks like the big trend happening for Fall 2014 is the nails. They caught my attention from day one with funky twists on the French manicure, classic nudes, and edgy shimmery metallics. I'm telling you, there's nothing subtle about these manicures. They all make a statement and in a very bold and BIG way. Heck, with nails like these who needs clothes?

The nails at Cushnie Et Ochs were filed into a soft stiletto shape and then layered with an oil-based lacquer that turned from deep asphalt to holographic green depending on how the light hit it. The idea was so that the manicures complemented the edgy designs and cat-eye liner. Loved it!

I fell in love with the lady-like manicures at the Erin Featherson show. Manicurist Miss Pop for Kiss Products started off by painting nails with a blush pink polish. "I refined the half moon–a nail art trend started by flappers, into a more delicate stroke," she said. "Then I added a hand painted monogrammed E using KISS Nail Artist Paint, alternating between white and black." So pretty!

Creatures of the Wind

The marble effect seen at the Creatures of the Wind's show was ultra feminine and chic. London's Global Colour ambassador Katie Jane Hughes achieved this look by pouring drops of several nail colors one after the other into a small bowl of water. She then took an orange wood stick to swirl the colors, creating a variety of patterns. The press on nails were dipped into the colorful water, and once it was removed the pattern on the water appeared on the nail. How cool is that?

This bold, modern twist on the classic French manicure was achieved by first applying two coats of a deep berry polish, like Essie Nail Color in Bahama Mama ($8). Essie in Might Cami ($8) was then brushed on to create a neat arc across the edge of the nail.

Degen

This has to be the coolest nail art I've seen all week. The nails at the Degen presentation featured cute cloud prints on all fingers except the ring fingers that were designed with rainbows.

Emerson

The edgy nail designs at Emerson were inspired by American Horror Story: Woven and were created to resemble slashes, cutouts, and negative space. Jackie Fraser Swan created the "Shattered Mirror" look by applying one coat of Essie Nail Color in Licorice ($9) and then created a shattered effect using Essie Nail Color in No Place Like Chrome ($9).

The French nails at Tess Giberson received an edgy makeover with white tips on a black metallic base.

Models walked down the runway with uniform, off-white manis. Short nails were filed into a square shape followed by two coats of JINsoon Kookie in White (not yet available).

The ultra feminine nails at Tibi's show were inspired by "Modern Amish." Jin Soon Choi created a soft, earthy nail by layering white polka dots over two coats of JINsoon Nostalgia, a classic nude polish.

A strip of Butter LONDON Polish in Alabaster (available in June) was painted diagonally on the nail for a cool take on the French manicure.
