The other day I was washing my hair and noticed morepelo in the shower drain than usual. It freaked me out because I've been eating well and haven't been under any serious stress. So what could be causing this? And then I discovered that winter weather could be the reason. We may not experience the frizz and sun-damage we do in the summer, but the cold weather can cause dryness, dandruff, breakage, and EVEN hair loss. So scary!

The good news is there are ways you can easily combat winter hair loss. But make sure you consult with your doctor first to make sure that your hair shedding is because of weather damage, and not due to any hormonal or medical problems. Here are a few easy ways to help control hair fall this winter!
Switch to heavier conditioners: Like it or not, breakage means damage. Look for a conditioner that's going to repair your hair and give it strength. I love Pantene Pro-V Damage Detox Daily Rebuilding Conditioner ($5). It also makes it super easy to detangle strands.
Use oils: To help keep hair hydrated and nourished, apply an oil treatment to the scalp and ends. Check out Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil ($27).
Upgrade your shampoo: Try a shampoo that's filled with beneficial oils and specifically targets damaged strands, like Kiss My Face Miss Treated Shampoo ($8). The minty rose scent is amazing!
Be gentle: Because your hair is weak, you want to make sure you treat it gently to prevent any further breakage. Try combing wet strands while you still have conditioner in it with a wide tooth comb. And avoid hats that fit you too snug.
Don't tie your hair too tight: No one is saying you have to wear your hair loose all the time, but if you're going to wear ponytails, braids, or buns make sure they're not too tight. I like using a soft scrunchie at night. It's easier on my tresses and doesn't leave a crease.
Try biotin supplements: Biotin does it all for your hair, from promoting growth, preventing dryness, and minimizing breakage. Try taking biotin supplements daily.
