The site that is stirring up controvery is Target.com and on one of their shopping pages, it shows a maternity model wearing a striped black and white maxi dress. The item was a Merona Women's Plus-Size Short-Sleeve v-Neck Maxi Dress and since then has been taken down from the retailer's site. There is also no way of hiding the woman's pregnancy because it is obvious that she is touching a baby bump.
This has some curvier women up in arms because they aren't happy with the idea of the company using a pregnant woman to depict them in their clothing. Not only that, but the plus-size dress being advertised apparently costs more money than the version made for petite women.
I can't say I blame these ladies for being upset over this mishap because pregnant women and plus-size women are two different things. I'm sure they weren't looking to offend anyone but they did the right thing taking it down from their site when it was brought to their attention. Maybe next time they can hire an appropriate model for their clothing to avoid any problems with their plus-size customers.
