There are jars upon jars of lotions, creams, and potions that promise to make you look younger and maybe they do help your skin look better, but do they really take years off of your appearance? Not really. But now, finally, scientists claim to have found the secret to looking up to 40 years younger. So what's the secret and where can you get your hands on it? Well, it's a protein found in all living cells called NAD (am I the only one who thinks that NADs being the the key to youth is hilarious?). So according to researchers, a NAD-producing compound can slow down the aging process or reverse it all together. For now, it's only been accomplished in mice, but the dream is, of course, to eventually apply the results to humans. But I think it is a TERRIBLE idea. Do we really want 60-year-olds walking around looking like 20-year-olds? NOOOOO!

Okay, first a little background on the research. Professor David Sinclair, an expert on genetics at Harvard Medical School explains, "The aging process we discovered is like a married couple–when they are young, they communicate well, but over time, living in close quarters for many years, communication breaks down. And just like with a couple, restoring communication solved the problem. There's clearly much more work to be done here, but if these results stand, then many aspects of ageing may be reversible if caught early." Thank you professor for putting it in terms that the average person can understand.
So this is still a long time away from being applicable to humans, and if it can be used to prevent or cure diseases, I think it's great, but if it is just to make people look younger I think it is a horrible idea and I'll tell you why.
Being able to tell how old or roughly how old someone is by their appearance is a good thing. Otherwise how would we be able to tell if a man dating an 18-year-old is going through a mid-life crisis? If we "cure" the aging process, for all we know that chick that looks like she's 18 is actually 58. Do you see all the issues this could cause? Demi Moore could date a guy that looks like he's in his 20s and just say, "Back off haters, he just looks young, he's actually 60!" What would happen to the whole tabloid industry?
